The piece is a self portrait, displaying myself from the chest-up, consumed by surrounding vegetation. Vikaas is a Hindi word meaning ‘development’ or ‘success’, but for this piece, I interpret it as ‘Growth’. The piece reflects upon themes of my upbringing/culture, and my interests (I love gardening and care for many houseplants), but primarily represents the growth I have experienced over my high-school years.
