Dysmorphia

Dysmorphia

‘Dysmorphia’ reflects the impact of social media on self-image. The fractured phone screen depicts a morphed version of my face, yet the ‘imperfections’ are only shown by the phone and not in the mirror. The power that social media has on our self-esteem is extremely significant, especially with how many kids from our generation grew up online.

I can almost feel the pain behind this painting. The breaking of the glass almost represents the little part of a heart that breaks off every time you look in your phone camera and and feel upset about how you look. The phone also shows how unrealistic standards affect and shatter our self image.

This art piece is extremely well-detailed with all the little parts to the setting of a teenage girl’s bathroom. It really represents the importance of how some people get affected by social media.

I think this art represents how a lot of people feel, especially teenagers. A lot of youth nowadays have many insecurities due to coral medias, because people ca get away with saying stuff behind a screen. Also, seeing many unrealistic beauty standards can affect how you perceive yourself.

I LOVE the style of this artwork. The meaning is relatable and deep which is great to catch the eye of many. I think this artwork is good for an audience of high schoolers especially considering the social media craze.
