“Where’d She Go?” they’d ask
Referring to a photograph taken a few years prior to all the chaos
And to be honest, I don’t know.
I think of that girl every day
The one who always had a smile on her face
The one who spent all her time with her family
The one who prayed she’d never lose them.
But, what I do know, is that she’s gone
She’s gone and she’s not coming back
In fact, she’s happy to be gone.
Finally happy she doesn’t have to fake a smile
Finally happy she doesn’t have to wrestle unwanted thoughts that swarmed her head
Finally happy to be calm in the storms
Finally happy to have peace.
While she loved her family with her whole heart
The feeling wasn’t reciprocated
Even though her family knew they were wrong
They hid the issues, tucked them under a rug.
Little did everyone know, the chaos was always present
And she was drowning in her thoughts, they just couldn’t see it
Her family left her, abandoned her at her lowest,
And yet the question still is,
“Where’d She go?”
