Dreamcatcher

The Scarecrow

I am two days old and so naive,
So stay by my side and never leave
Watch me as I learn to grieve
For all the love I never received
I have a nose but I cannot breathe
Two blank eyes that can’t perceive
I am a knife that rests in its sheath,
Safe from a world that doesn’t believe

Stuck in a world of wheat and hay,
The crows perch on my arms all day,
Singing in their somber way
I wish I knew what they wanted to say
I dream that I’ll be free one day
But I’m fastened to the mud and clay
Only my thoughts are allowed to stray
And my dreams will be buried where I lay
