Cafeteria Horror Story

Though the cafeteria has never been my favorite place in the world, I haven’t had very bad experiences. One vivid memory I do have from a school cafeteria is when my lunch lady dug through the rancid trash cans for my retainer in the 4th grade. To this day I don’t feel that I am 100% to blame, after I had eaten my lunch I left my (clear) retainer on a napkin close to my stuff while I threw away my trash but by the time I returned from the 20 second trip it was gone. I was confused and asked the people around me when one kid´s mom started to look worried. She then admitted to throwing it away and was very apologetic. To her defense it did look like trash, you couldn’t see the retainer part from her angle. We both then went up and asked Mrs,Gabby our lunch lady and once the bell rang she put on some thick gloves and dug through the can closest to my lunch table. Once she found it I remember her telling me ¨Don’t wear it until you wash it at home,¨ I don’t understand how I ever put it back in my mouth after knowing it had been in the dark depths of PB&J sandwiches and beheaded chicken tenders.
