Loneliness

Loneliness

You infiltrate my mind behind my eyes,
I sense your presence when I do not sleep.
A loathsome tune that comes as a surprise,
When heard from a crowded and busy street.

A friend may be standing right by my side,
But you will always be one step closer.
Even in crowds there is no place to hide,
It is hard to maintain my composure.

Yet through the odium I am empty.
Who knew there was space that nothing could fill?
This feeling resides there in aplenty,
Surrounded by others I feel it still.

One can be lonely and yet not alone,
That is where empty shall make itself home.
