The End Before We Know It

Julianna Patterson '23

holding onto the weights

and feeling them fall

is the worst allotment of existence

you would believe everything is okay

right

then things just… plummet

dead, lifeless

so heavy it makes a clang,

striking the floor,

and there’s nothing I can do

to ease the weights

to halt the downpour

just breathe, they say

just concentrate

just calm down

just do better.

just breathe, they say

and there’s nothing you can do

to terminate the criticism

to pause the monsoon,

watch everything fall to the ground,

feel the weights of having no control

of when they fall,

of when our lives fall apart

of when everything comes to an end.
