We sobbed to soft salt symphonies
And gave our lives to chance
Twirling under cosmic seas,
Pluto watched us dance
The moon eyed us through the trees,
Its calm and searching light
Untouched by the lilting breeze
Throughout the vacant night
Rising from the bitter earth
Were mountains of white cloud
That leached the land of all its mirth
And hid us in its shroud
Our fragile coral skeletons
Find hope in you and me
They languish in their lurid bins
And dream of being free
We made up our minds at last
And looked up to the sky
This planet spins a mile too fast
Its rivers run too high
The milk-light of the summer moon
Led us with its glow
Away from Earth’s demented croon
And the world I used to know
