Time Heals

Sephtis '23

They say time’s supposed to heal.
Time mends tears in the soul,
Rips in the heart,
Lesions on the skin.

They say time’s supposed to heal.

But I don’t believe them.
Because if time is supposed to heal,
Then why do the scars on my wrists
Get worse with each passing day.

Why do my eyes tear up
At a loud sound or
Footsteps I know all too well
Thudding from down the hall

If time is supposed to heal,
Then why am I not fixed yet?

If time stopped.
I would sit with my dog
In the grass next to the river
I would read a book and watch
the sun right at the horizon.
Not worrying.
No longer afraid.

I would finally get my
Graceland Too
Moment.

Because if time heals,
Then I’ll live through it.
