I don’t love sandcastles anymore

Selena Molinari '24

To build a sandcastle out of you

Well, it’s impossible, it always will be

You can’t build a castle out of quicksand.

When I needed you, you held me

I thought you were safe

I thought you were

Ocean water

I couldn’t drown

Because you taught me

How to float

Unbeknownst to me

You pulled me deeper

And deeper

Into a cradle of pressure

I couldn’t escape

It’s easy to wonder what escape feels like

When your only escape route

Sinks you further into the sand

I’ve always loved the beach, the salt

But I’ve never loved you.

I could never love quicksand

Quicksand took my

Sandcastles from me.
