The Hard Truth to Swallow

Poem by Milena Jandreski ’23

I used to know myself

I used to know what to say

Now I speak and it feels like the words of another mouth

Not my own

Life does not exist within the concept of forever

The restraint of eternity

Everyone has an expiration date

Who will I become

What will I have done when my time comes

What will be my defining memories

The sad truth

The hard truth to swallow

When it comes to it we all be buried six feet deep

Rotting like overripe fruit

For what

Is that what we are reduced to
